Balance Check Limits Introduced: Starting August 1, 2025, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has set a cap of 50 daily balance checks per UPI app, including PhonePe, Google Pay, and Paytm. This rule aims to reduce server strain during peak hours. To ease the impact, your updated balance will automatically display after each successful transaction, minimizing the need for manual checks.

Auto-Pay Transactions Get Fixed Timings
Auto-debit payments, such as OTT subscriptions, EMIs, or utility bills, will now process only during non-peak hours: before 10:00 AM, between 1:00 PM and 5:00 PM, or after 9:30 PM. This change ensures smoother regular UPI transactions by reducing system congestion during busy periods. Users should schedule payments to align with these windows to avoid delays.
Bank Account Details Access Restricted
Fetching linked bank account details is now limited to 25 times per day per app. This restriction applies when setting up or switching bank accounts in apps like PhonePe, Google Pay, or Paytm, aiming to enhance system efficiency and security by curbing excessive API calls.
Transaction Status Checks Limited
Checking the status of pending UPI transactions is now capped at three attempts per transaction, with a mandatory 90-second gap between tries. This rule prevents system overload and encourages users to verify recipient names before sending funds to reduce errors and fraud.
Enhanced Security and Efficiency
These new UPI rules, effective from August 1, 2025, are designed to make digital payments faster, safer, and more reliable. By adhering to NPCI guidelines, PhonePe, Google Pay, and Paytm users can expect a seamless experience with fewer delays and enhanced trust in transactions.
